Treetop Tees

June 30, 2022 - Treetop Tees, located on Franklin Street in downtown Juneau, opened in 2016. Camille Jones bought the company in 2019 with the intention to keep providing folks with shirts specific to Juneau.

“The designs that we make are all original; we work with local artists, and friends and family to bring these designs to life. In 2020, I mean everybody was shut down until June. Then the only way we were able to open back up was with PPP loans and grants; we were really lucky to have those resources. Without tourism, we wouldn’t be able to stay open year round. The summer is the busiest time of year; the more people that are in town, the more people that are connecting with our t-shirts.

"Tourism can be a double-edged sword, anywhere you go. One of the things I noticed with the big ships not being able to come to town was, when people chose to [independently travel] to Alaska, Southeast was forgotten. They would rather fly to Anchorage and rent a car, and just drive around for a week because it’s more economical that way; cruising allows people to visit all the southeast towns in a manageable way...

"It just gives access to people who would not be able to afford it any other way. It’s really important for people to come here because they see why Alaska is worth protecting, why we love it, why it’s worth coming here. They get a little taste of these towns and then they’ll come back for more." - Camille Jones, Owner
