Juneau’s Tourism Manager

August 18, 2022 – We followed up with Alexandra Pierce, the City and Borough of Juneau’s Tourism Manager. This is the first year that this position has existed and Alexandra is working towards making the region proactive to the tourism industry, not just reactive to current conditions!

“I thought I had a pretty good understanding of tourism as a huge, messy public policy issue heading into this and it’s not that I didn’t but I think that that understanding has gotten a lot deeper. I’ve definitely identified some areas that we want to focus our attention and energy in the future, particularly around infrastructure projects. We’re pushing for dock electrification and seawalk projects and we’ve gotten some preliminary positive feedback on it.

“We’ve also been working really hard on regional collaboration and working with other municipalities and ports in the region to identify some common goals and try to find regional solutions to some of our problems. I think the green corridor process will really help advance that level of collaboration because the industry is involved as well.

“If there is one thing I want to try and achieve, it’s being able to articulate that regional vision. And it’s easier said than done. But it’s super fun and interesting.“ - Alexandra Pierce, City Tourism Manager
