Electrified Dock

September 6, 2022 – That's right, the electrified Princess Cruise Dock in Juneau was the very first of its kind in the world when it was built in 2001! We are so proud to be part of a community on the forefront of sustainable tourism efforts.

This summer, the CBJ Committee of the Whole gave the green light for the CBJ Docks and Harbors Board to start drafting a plan to electrify two city docks and make some improvements to the already electrified dock. The electrification of the cruise ship docks would mean an overall decrease in emissions from the cruise ships because they would be using power from the docks rather than sulfur fuels.

There are many pieces to the puzzle when it comes to “plugging in,” but the city is taking steps with its cruise partners in the long but crucial process in creating a more sustainable waterfront.
